Save Snapchat Memories to Your Camera Roll
In this guide

Snapchat Memories is where the Snaps and Stories you chose to save are kept. They live in your Snapchat account, and they are not always on your phone. If you want a copy in your photo gallery, for example before you change phones, you need to export them. This guide shows how to do that with Snapchat's own features.

Before you start

  • Update Snapchat. Menu names change between versions, so the newest version matches this guide best.
  • Check that your phone has free storage. Exported Snaps are stored on your phone.
  • Use Wi-Fi if you plan to export many Snaps.
  • Let Snapchat save to your photos. On iPhone, open Settings, then Snapchat, then Photos. On Android, open Settings, then Apps, then Snapchat, then Permissions.

How to save one Memory to your camera roll

  1. Open Snapchat and go to the camera screen.
  2. Open Memories by swiping up from the shutter button, or by tapping the small photo icon next to it.
  3. Tap the Snap you want to keep.
  4. Tap the three dots, then choose Export Snap and save it to your Camera Roll.
  5. Open your Photos or Gallery app and check that the Snap is there.

How to save several Memories at once

  1. Open Memories.
  2. Tap Select, or press and hold one Snap to start selecting.
  3. Tap each Snap you want. You can select many at a time.
  4. Tap the export button, then choose Camera Roll.
  5. Keep Snapchat open until it says the export is finished.

Large exports can take a while. If you have hundreds of Snaps, export them in batches, so one problem does not stop the whole job.

How to save new Snaps to your camera roll automatically

You can ask Snapchat to save a copy of every new Snap to your phone as well. Open your profile, tap the settings icon, then open Memories and look for the save destination setting. Pick the option that saves to both Memories and your Camera Roll.

Choosing Camera Roll only means the Snap will not be kept in Memories, so most people should keep both.

If saving does not work

  • Your phone is full. Free up space and try again.
  • Snapchat cannot access your photos. Turn the photos permission on, as described above.
  • The app is out of date. Update it from the App Store or Google Play.
  • The export stops part of the way. Try fewer Snaps at a time and stay on Wi-Fi.
  • Nothing helps. Restart your phone, then try again.

Want everything, not only photos and videos?

Snapchat also lets you request a copy of your account data from your account settings on the Snapchat website. The download can include your Memories, along with other information about your account. Our guide to downloading your Snapchat data shows how.

Frequently asked questions

Does exporting remove a Memory from Snapchat?

No. Exporting makes a copy on your phone. The Memory stays in Memories unless you delete it.

Is the quality the same after I export?

You get the version of the Snap that Snapchat stores. It can look different from the original photo or video you captured, for example if it has stickers or text added.

Check that Snapchat has permission to save to your photos, wait a minute for the gallery to refresh, and look in your recent photos and in any Snapchat album.

Can I use this to save someone else's Snap or Story?

No. This guide is only about your own Snaps in your own Memories. Only save content that belongs to you or that you have permission to save.

Can I save my Memories from a computer?

The simplest way is the account data download described above. The Snapchat website itself does not replace the app for exporting Memories one by one.
